Guideline Documents
As part of its mission to standardize strong-motion data practices, COSMOS supports the development of technical guideline documents covering a range of topics. These have included guidance on strong-motion instrumentation of buildings and other structures, recommended practices for processing and archiving strong-motion records, recommended parameters for accelerograph and station metadata, and approaches to characterizing the seismic site conditions surrounding a recording station.
These guidelines are developed collaboratively by contributors across the strong-motion and earthquake engineering community, and are periodically revised as methods and technology evolve. COSMOS is a non-profit organization whose goal is to expand and significantly modernize the acquisition and application of strong-motion data in order to increase public safety from earthquakes.
