Accessing Strong-Motion Data
The COSMOS Virtual Data Center (VDC) is designed to make strong-motion earthquake records more accessible to the engineering and scientific community. It provides an unrestricted portal to strong ground-motion records contributed by network operators, with search tools that let users find data by location, earthquake event, recording station, or other parameters.
To help users work with this data, COSMOS has also supported the development of data conversion tools that translate strong-motion records between common formats used by different networks, making it easier to bring data into standard analysis software. These tools are updated periodically as data formats and community needs evolve.
The VDC reflects COSMOS’s broader mission: making strong-motion data easier to find, understand, and use in research and practice.
